0.2 µm PVDF Blotting Membrane, IC-8220
Product Introduction
This product is a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) blotting membrane with a pore size of 0.2 µm, designed for protein transfer and immunodetection in Western blotting applications. PVDF membranes offer high protein binding capacity, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance, making them a preferred choice for Western blotting, protein sequencing, and protein analysis. The 0.2 µm pore size is recommended for proteins with molecular weights below 20 kDa, as smaller pores prevent protein loss through the membrane during transfer, ensuring efficient binding of low molecular weight proteins and peptides. The membrane is supplied in convenient roll format, allowing users to cut membranes to the desired size. PVDF membranes must be pre-wetted with methanol before use to ensure proper hydration and protein binding.
Product Features
1. High Protein Binding Capacity: PVDF surface provides strong protein binding for sensitive detection.

Protocol (For Reference Only)
Important: PVDF membrane must be pre-wetted with 100% methanol before use. Do not allow the membrane to dry out during transfer and detection.
1. Membrane Activation: Immerse the PVDF membrane in 100% methanol for 15-30 seconds until uniformly translucent. Rinse in deionized water, then equilibrate in transfer buffer for at least 5 minutes.
2. Transfer Assembly: Assemble the transfer sandwich according to standard protocols, placing the activated membrane against the gel.
3. Protein Transfer: Perform electrophoretic transfer according to standard protocols.
4. Post-Transfer Processing: Proceed directly to blocking and immunodetection. Ponceau S staining may be performed to assess transfer efficiency.
5. Stripping and Reprobing: The membrane can be stripped and reprobed multiple times.
Precautions
1. Always pre-wet with methanol before use; failure to do so results in poor protein binding.
2. Do not allow the membrane to dry out during transfer and detection.
3. Wear gloves and use clean forceps to handle the membrane.
4. Cut membranes to size before activation.
5. For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
FAQ (Simplified)
Q1: What protein sizes are suitable for 0.2 µm PVDF membrane?
A1: The 0.2 µm pore size is recommended for proteins below 20 kDa. For proteins above 20 kDa, a 0.45 µm membrane is generally sufficient.
Q2: Why is methanol activation necessary?
A2: PVDF is naturally hydrophobic. Methanol activation hydrates the membrane, enabling effective protein binding.
Q3: Can this membrane be stripped and reprobed?
A3: Yes. PVDF membranes can be stripped and reprobed multiple times due to their mechanical strength and chemical resistance.
